Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) is the asset management unit of the Central Bank of Norway (Norges Bank). It manages the Government Pension Fund Global, which is one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds. NBIM's role is to safeguard and build financial wealth for future generations by investing in international equity, fixed income, and real estate markets. The fund aims to achieve high returns with acceptable risk, and its investment strategy is based on the fund's long-term horizon and a significant capacity to accept short-term volatility.

Norges Bank Investment Management manages the Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global, often referred to as the Norwegian Oil fund. The aim of the fund is to ensure responsible and long-term management of revenue from Norway’s oil and gas resources so that this wealth benefits both current and future generations of Norway.

Our objective as manager of the fund is to generate the highest possible return on the fund. We aim to achieve this in a safe, efficient, responsible and transparent manner, and within government guidelines. 

GLOBAL PRESENCE 
The fund is the largest single owner in the world’s stock markets, owning almost 1.4 percent of all shares in the world’s listed companies. This means that we have holdings in around 9,000 companies worldwide. In addition, the fund owns hundreds of properties in some of the world’s leading cities and global distribution networks, invest in renewable energy infrastructure and receives a steady income from bonds issued by governments and related institutions and securities issued by companies.

We have offices in Oslo, London, New York, Singapore and Shanghai. Our global presence brings us closer to the markets we invest in and ensures stronger links with partners in different parts of the world.

15,765 billion kroner, or about 1.5 trillion dollars. That’s the value of the fund at the end of last year. A 16% return for the fund in total, where equities managed 21% and fixed income 6% 📊

Our unlisted real estate investments had a negative return of -12%, due to higher interest rates and lower demand for office space 🏢

The fund’s renewable infrastructure investments had a positive return of 4%, and we’ve made new investments in Germany and Spain ☀️💨🔋🔌

We’ve had our highest return in kroner ever, amounting to 2,222 billion. However, for the first time in five years, our relative return to our benchmark was 18 basis points negative, mainly due to the result from the real estate investments 📉

Despite high inflation and geopolitical turmoil the equity market returned 21% positive, where the tech sector being a clear winner: 51.9% return in 2023. The sector benefited from efficiency measures and increased demand for new solutions within AI. Tech as a standalone sector returned a staggering 895 billion kroner last year 👩‍💻💻🤖

We have been an active member and contributor since the launch in 2019. Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) have developed and published in 2023 a set of disclosure recommendations and guidance for organisations to report and act on evolving nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities 🐸

New year, new country! 🎉 Together with our great partner Iberdrola, we've signed an agreement to acquire a 49 percent interest in a portfolio of solar plants and onshore wind farms located in #Spain and #Portugal 🇪🇸 🇵🇹
 
"It expands our footprint in Spain and is also our first step into Portugal. We look forward to adding more attractive renewable infrastructure projects going forward," says CEO Nicolai Tangen 🤝🏞️
 
Two projects are onshore wind projects, and two are solar plant projects, with an installed capacity equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 350,000 Spanish households 🏡💡
 
Solar plants make up 60 percent of the portfolio, while onshore wind accounts for the remaining 40 percent ☀️ 💨
