The company generates electricity through wind, solar, nuclear, coal, and natural gas facilities. It also develops, constructs, and operates long-term contracted assets that consists of clean energy solutions, such as renewable generation facilities, battery storage projects, and electric transmission facilities; sells energy commodities; and owns, develops, constructs, manages and operates electric generation facilities in wholesale energy markets. As of December 31, 2021, the company had approximately 28,564 megawatts of net generating capacity; approximately 77,000 circuit miles of transmission and distribution lines; and 696 substations. It serves approximately 11 million people through approximately 5.7 million customer accounts in the east and lower west coasts of Florida. The company was formerly known as FPL Group, Inc. and changed its name to NextEra Energy, Inc. in 2010. The company was founded in 1925 and is headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida.

Congratulations to Richard Elliott, Florida Power & Light's energy services director, for his outstanding work and dedication to South Florida’s Xcel Mentoring Network. He recently received Xcel’s National Mentoring Award in recognition of his commitment to mentoring the youth in our community. 

“It was a surprise to be recognized with this award. It’s very special to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Richard. “Being a mentor teaches me to appreciate what I have in my life, but being able to help people develop and succeed is the most fulfilling.”

Meet the engineer leading FPL into the future:

Our very own Rob Adams, from Florida Power & Light's  Power Delivery team, is pedaling with purpose! After losing his mother to cancer, he finds solace in cycling and uses it to prioritize his own health.

More than a decade ago, he stumbled upon the Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC), a Miami Dolphins initiative that raises funds for innovative cancer research, and joined the cause in memory of his mom. 

Today, Adams leads FPL's team, raising both awareness and funds for DCC. With nearly $1 million raised in the past 11 years, his leadership and dedication have made a significant impact. 

Too many of us have lost parents, relatives and friends to cancer,” said Adams. “Raising money for cancer research honors their memory and helps our community.”
