New Zealand is the largest exporter of dairy proteins. These exports deliver nutrition to those who need it and create prosperity for our farmers and our communities. Yet it also comes at a cost to our environment, polluting our waterways and generating substantial greenhouse gas emissions.

What if there was another way? We believe there is. 

Using precision fermentation we can produce identical dairy proteins without the harm to our land, our rivers or our animals. Daisy Lab is on a mission to pioneer precision fermentation technology for dairy protein production.

🌏 New Zealand is already leading the world in niche protein purification (i.e. in dairy), using our IP and Know-How in membrane filtration and industrial ion-exchange chromatography. Purification is often up to 70% of the costs (both OPEX and CAPEX). This gives us a unique advantage to leap-frog other countries in industrial recombinant protein production - particularly for extra-cellularly expressed proteins.

⛔  Since starting Daisy Lab, I've heard hundreds of discouragements like "you can't", "you will never pull it off", "you won't be allowed to", "you're at the wrong place", "others have tried and failed" and even more extreme personalised offenses like "who do you think you are?", "you don't have the skills or resources" and "you are naive and delusional". 

📢 When we started, those voices were prevalent and loud. People would seek me out, schedule a meeting, only to lecture me on how incompetent I was to bring precision fermentation to New Zealand and all the obstacles I'd face. I am sure some of them meant well and were genuinely trying to spare me from the pain of failure. Others, however, may have been guarding their own agendas at times. 

🙇♀️ At first I would listen, trying to reconcile this overwhelmingly negative external feedback with my own analysis of reality and internal logic. Then, after failing to reconcile, I became immune to the negative comments. 

🔥 Another person just called you incapable? Great! Put them in the "hater" box and let their energy fuel your perseverance. Hit another obstacle? Great! If it was easy, everyone would be doing it! So you buckle up and keep going. 

✅ Eventually, you find people that support you! You value every word of encouragement, you cling to every piece of rational advice and you implement it ruthlessly. Again and again. 

❤️ And with that, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart EVERYONE who supported us on our brave and slightly crazy journey - be that with a kind word, a practical advice or a positive action. You know who you are!
