2X Global is an initiative that promotes gender-smart finance by mobilizing public and private investors to invest in women. The organization provides a toolkit and criteria for gender-smart climate investments, aiming to advance women's economic participation as entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, and consumers. It focuses on investments that deliver both climate outcomes and promote gender equality and women's empowerment, aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

We are on a mission to equip and engage the full spectrum of investors, intermediaries, and innovators capable of transforming systems of finance through the gender-smart deployment of capital across asset classes and markets.

It is estimated that closing the global gap in women’s access to financial products and services could unlock $330 billion in annual revenues. In addition, gender diverse companies perform 25% better than homogenous peers. 

This IWD 2X Global, Building Bridges & Gender Lens Initiative for Switzerland are hosting a webinar to explore tangible examples of how gender lens investing strategies can be applied in public and private markets, as well as wealth management.

In her latest Devex piece, The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG)'s Krisztina Tora argues that gender lens investing is the tool that can help restore our planet while improving opportunities and outcomes for women around the world.

Following a lack of women voices in the climate debate at last year's COP27, Kristina says:

"This imbalance can only be detrimental to the efforts to tackle climate change — particularly since women and girls are disproportionately affected by the consequences of the climate crisis. Women around the world are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis, yet they are critical changemakers who can support the transition to #NetZero. 

The Women in Finance Climate Action Group, chaired by Amanda Bl anc, Aviva's Group CEO, is a collective of women leaders who are taking action. They’ve come together to consider how the financial sector can apply a gender lens to climate investments.

Gender equality and inclusion is central to climate action and something we hope will be integrated in World Economic Forum's recently launched global initiative to fight climate change by turning philanthropy into climate investments. 

Given the  huge generational transfer of wealth, and the increasing role of women’s wealth, there is an opportunity for such philanthropic efforts to be more gender-smart.

Our CEO Jessica Espinoza spoke to Impact-Investor.com about why anything considered smart investing should also be gender smart. 

“There’s a whole new generation of fund managers coming to market with very intentional gender lens investing strategies who are facing significant barriers and biases in fund raising from fund investors who are still allocating to the same predominantly male-led funds, which have been around for a long time,” she says.
