Here's a scary story: There was once a time when American patients had no clear way of knowing if their doctors had the necessary knowledge, judgment, and skills to practice a medical specialty. 🫣 But it has a happy ending. #Ophthalmologists demanded better—for their patients and their profession—and implemented the rigorous, peer-regulated system of board certification we know today. In addition to its vision connotations, the Board's motto, Ex Obscuris Lux (out of darkness, light), quite literally represented the profession's drive to equip patients with critical information about physician competency that could empower them to make more informed choices about their #care .
