Moving away from fossil fuels is key to achieve Asia and the Pacific's climate goals. 

ADB's Energy Transition Mechanism uses public and private finance to retire coal and other fossil fuel plants earlier and replace them with clean energy. 

To further accelerate the region’s energy transition, the Bank is also working with the Monetary Authority of Singapore to pilot transition credits, which are high-integrity carbon credits generated from the carbon emissions avoided through a coal plant's early retirement.

Access to sanitation presents a pressing challenge in Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous nation.  
 
ADB worked with the government to implement a water financing program that enhanced sanitation and wastewater systems for 4.7 million people.

We repeat our gratitude to his country for the significant contribution it has made to our Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM) program. New Zealand's assistance of $25 million will help support Southeast Asia’s ambition to accelerate a clean, inclusive, and sustainable transition to clean energy. 
 
As the climate bank for Asia and the Pacific, ADB believes ETM has the potential to be one of the largest carbon reduction programs in the world and a vital tool in the battle against climate change. Support from partners such as New Zealand is critical as we expand ETM across our region.
