🆕REPORT | Estimated at 27.3 billion square meters, the expansive rooftop area of rural buildings in China presents a vast potential for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) installation. This could translate to an installed capacity of nearly 2 billion kW and an annual electricity generation surpassing 2.5 trillion kWh, exceeding the current electricity shortfall of 1 trillion kWh. AIIB's new report with the Energy Foundation China (EFC) examines how solar photovoltaic (PV) technology is emerging as a key component of China's strategy to bridge its electricity gap and achieve its “dual carbon” goals.
