Disrupting Peace explores why peace hasn’t worked and how it still could. In each episode, Bridget Conley, research director at the World Peace Foundation, speaks with a researcher specializing in one obstacle to peace and an activist changing systems from the ground up. Together, they explore what worked, what didn’t, and why we shouldn’t give up. Each episode ends with collective dreaming about what it would take to create the world we hope for (or at least get much closer). Meet Heidi Chang , an independent award-winning multimedia journalist passionate about telling meaningful stories about Hawaii and the Pacific Rim for audio, video, digital media, and print. Her work has aired on many networks and shows, including NPR, "The World," Voice of America, "Living on Earth," "Marketplace," "Weekend America, "Here & Now," PBS, AP Radio, ABC Radio, KQED's "Pacific Time," "Latino USA," the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and PRX podcasts. Most recently, Heidi won a 2024 Excellence in Audio Storytelling, News Feature Award from the Asian American Journalists Association for her NPR story Edith Kanaka'ole is the first Hawaiian woman to grace a U.S. quarter. She has also written for the Los Angeles Times, NBC News, and other outlets. She covers everything from news and the environment to arts and culture, including music. Heidi began her journalism career as a TV reporter in California, Texas, Washington state, and Hawaii, where she also worked as a news anchor and host at Hawaii Public Radio. Along the way, she's freelanced as a field producer for ABC's "Good Morning America" and contributed to other shows, films, and documentaries. (SAG-AFTRA member since 1978.) Heidi is based in Honolulu, where she started on the airwaves, hosting popular radio shows featuring jazz, rock, pop, R&B, and Hawaiian music. Born in the SF Bay Area, they've made their home in New Orleans and Mississippi since 2012. free centers collaborations with other Black and Queer artists and have composed scores for film, theatre, and dance using strings, loops, and vocals. A poet and active listener, they explore how individual experiences illuminate facets of our collective stories. free holds a BM from Oberlin Conservatory, a Certificate in Documentary Studies from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, and an MA in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi.
