Governmental Affairs Council Meeting Recap ✍ It was a packed boardroom for the Governmental Affairs Council (GAC). Leaders from Pantex gave the council an update on the transition to the new government contractor as well as the goals and priorities over the next 10 years. The council also began preparing key priorities that they will present to legislators during the 2025 Panhandle Days in Austin event February 11-13. Ag & Natural Resources Council Meeting Recap! The Chamber's Ag & Natural Resources Council held their first meeting of the new fiscal year last week at the Chamber. The council, chaired by Brice Sheets of Alpha Media, met to discuss outreach trips for 2025 as well as the legislative priorities for the 2025 session. The council's mission is to increase the visibility of agriculture and awareness of its importance to the Panhandle economy by supporting urban and rural water conservation and education; involvement in the development of agriculture related issues; and providing input on regulatory policies that affect agriculture and natural resources. The Ag Council will once again co-host the Texas Wheat Symposium and Ag Appreciation Lunch as part of the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show held at the Civic Center Grand Plaza on Wednesday, December 4th. The 28th Annual Chamber Good Times Celebration Barbecue Cook-Off had a record-breaking attendance of approximately 10,000 people this year. We want to thank each and every one who came out and supported, sponsored, cooked, served, volunteered, judged, and helped in any way. We are especially grateful to our presenting sponsors, Tyson Foods , Reed Beverage , and United Supermarkets, LLC . We could not do this without them. This BBQ Cook-Off not only brings people together for a good time and highlights the community spirit of Amarillo but also showcases the talent and dedication of local BBQ enthusiasts. ⭐ Recent Board of Directors Meeting ⭐ The Chamber Board of Directors met last month at Reed Beverage for the end of the fiscal year and recognized and thanked Board Chairman, Spanky Assiter for his service to the Chamber for the last several years. Additional board members were given a small token of appreciation for their service as they transitioned off the board. New City Manager, Grayson Path was the program and gave an update from the City and introduced himself to our group, as he prepares to serve as the City's representative on the Chamber Board. We had a great time at FirstBank Southwest Downtown Tower last month at Business After Hours. Mixing and mingling is what our business community does best! 💚 Please Note that we will NOT have a Business After Hours in October.
