Did you know that over 422 million people worldwide live with #diabetes ? Managing this chronic illness can create many challenges including high medical costs or simply finding access to the medicines needed. Through our partnership with Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST) , Americares India is working to remove these barriers to care and ensure everyone has the access and support they need to live their healthiest life. Since the start of our joint Urban Health Strategy with #RIST , we have provided 16,500 diabetic patients with access to vital care and treatment for their diabetes in #Mumbai . In addition to treatment, patients receive health education sessions on diabetes, referrals and annual screenings through local health volunteers. For the India team and the communities they serve, diabetes awareness and diabetes-focused activities will continue throughout the month. As #COP29 kicks off in Azerbaijan today, the World Health Organization is calling for more discussions and action around the intersection of health and climate. The organization recently published a new report which highlights #Americares Climate Resilience for Frontline Clinics toolkit. The report outlines key actions aiming to protect all people, particularly the estimated 3.6 billion people who live in areas which are most susceptible to climate change. This new report stresses the importance of positioning health at the core of all climate negotiations, strategies, policies and action plans, to save lives and secure healthier futures for present and future generations. We are pleased to announce the election of Joy Gustafson Weintz to the #Americares Board of Directors. Weintz brings to the board a wealth of experience in philanthropy and community engagement, along with a deep commitment to Americares mission of saving lives and improving health for people affected by poverty and disaster. Throughout the years, the Weintz family has played a key role in advancing our development and awareness efforts, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she and her husband helped establish Americares Bay Area Leadership Council. The couple co-chaired the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024 Americares Airlift Benefits, helping to raise millions of dollars to support the organization’s life-saving health programs. We recently had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the #Uzbekistan Permanent Mission to the UN for a special visit to our distribution center in Stamford, Connecticut. While there, they inspected the latest aid shipment headed to the country consisting of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, anti-infective medicines, medical supplies and vitamin supplements. Since 1997, Americares has supported the local Uzbekistan charitable NGO Soglom Avlod Uchun through donations of medicine and medical supplies that they distribute to hospitals, mother-child clinics, rehabilitation centers, orphanages, and community-specific public health initiatives. The Uzbekistan Permanent Mission has been instrumental in helping Americares establish partnerships with Uzbekistan Airways and their Free Freight Program, allowing us to provide over $647 million in medicines and medical supplies to those in need. Collaboration with partners like these is at our core because we know we can do so much more together. #Americares

We’re proud to announce #Americares has awarded over $1 million in emergency funding to restore health care services in five states in the aftermath of #HurricaneHelene . Twenty-eight nonprofit organizations providing free or low-cost care are receiving grants ranging from $20,000 to $150,000 to keep their doors open, repair storm damage, replace essential medicines and equipment, and conduct outreach to underserved communities. Facilities Manager Robbie Tipton, pictured here, stands in the remnants of Mountain Community Health Partnership's behavioral health care facility and physical therapy center after being flooded with 7 feet of water. The Partnership's CEO Tim Evans said the emergency funding will help keep their other health facilities open in mountain communities where schools are still closed, and the tap water is still unsafe to drink a month after the hurricane. Beyond financial support, Americares has deployed disaster mental health specialists to assist health care providers and first responders, as well as a mobile clinic to deliver medical care in the hardest-hit areas. So far, we’ve shipped over 16 tons of medicine and supplies, including 1,300 bottles of infant formula and 3,800 tetanus vaccines. This month, #Americares Director of Climate and Disaster Resilience, Elena Ateva, joined the Forum on Advancing Inclusive Climate Action in Foreign Policy and Development at the White House. The forum discussed the increasingly pressing questions of how to develop and apply more effective and inclusive actions that benefit the communities most impacted by #ClimateChange . "Climate change does not affect all of us equally. Around the world, people who have contributed the least to the problem are impacted most. It has been one month since #HurricaneHelene devastated the southeastern United States with #Milton following suit just two weeks later as back to back storms. In response, #Americares reached out to 360 partner organizations across eight states, mostly clinics serving low-income residents without health insurance, to offer assistance. Thanks to generous donor support, we have committed over $800,000 in emergency funding, shipped over 6 tons of relief supplies, provided #MentalHealth support to survivors and installed four emergency water systems.
