In this webinar, we plan to discuss how one’s leadership skills can be cultivated as an influencing presence rather than an authoritative figure. In today's interconnected world, effective leadership goes beyond traditional authority - it requires the ability to inspire, persuade, and mobilize others toward a common vision. The conversation will focus on how an influencing style of leadership is more effective and can improve the management of conflict and building of relationships. We will have a keynote speaker with formal leadership skills training who provides an overview of this topic, and then our panelists will each present a “case study” of a challenge or conflict in their role as a leader, including how the situation was managed. Paul is the former Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Director of the Vanderbilt Eye Institute at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Paul has a long history of leadership in ophthalmology, highlighted by serving as President of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology, President of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the Macula Society, and Chair of the Board of Governors for the ARVO Foundation. In addition, he has served on the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Eye Institute, the Board of Directors of the International Retinal Research Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology and has been President of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, President of the Society of Heed Fellows, and Vice President of ARVO.
