Curious about California’s 2025 Energy Code? 🔍 The latest Title 24, Part 6 Energy Code will be adopted in Q4 2024 and take effect on January 1, 2026! 🌍 California continues to lead with bold new standards, so here are two major changes you should know about and prepare for: 🔥 Two Heat Pump Baseline The 2025 code expands the heat pump requirement introduced in 2022. Now, residential buildings must use heat pumps not just for space conditioning, but also for water heating systems. This double baseline is designed to lower greenhouse gas emissions, further supporting California’s move towards decarbonization. 💰 Long-term System Cost (LSC) The California Energy Commission (CEC) is introducing the Long-term System Cost (LSC) metric to evaluate the cost of energy over the next 30 years, factoring in hourly variations in energy prices. Unlike short-term utility bill savings, LSC reflects the long-term financial impact on the energy system, considering when energy is more expensive, such as during peak demand. LSC ensures that proposed building codes prioritize energy savings that benefit the state’s energy system as a whole. As we prepare for these changes, it’s essential for industry professionals to understand how these updates will impact both project planning and building performance. 🚀 Our Automated Window Shading Pilot Program is LIVE! ConSol is proud to announce the launch event of our Automated Window Shading Pilot Program, together with Somfy , Draper, Inc. , Infinity Home Services and De Young Properties , held on October 17. We were honored to welcome Congressman Fong, representative of California’s 20th district, along with members of our team, for a demonstration of cutting-edge technology designed to save homeowners cost and energy. The primary goal of this Pilot Program is to evaluate the potential energy and utility bill reductions from installing automated window shading systems in residential homes. The Program also aims to assess improvements in occupant comfort and gather valuable feedback on customer satisfaction with the technology. The featured home for this launch event is part of a Zero Net Energy (ZNE) development, supported by prior grant funding from the California Energy Commission's Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) program. Building on the success of this ZNE community is the addition of this new Automated Window Shading Pilot Program. This DOE-awarded project will collect data through Q4 2025, and ConSol is excited to work with our project partners—Somfy and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab—to analyze the data and results in the coming months.
