Excellence in Breeding (EiB) is a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that supports the delivery of the new CGIAR Genetic Innovation Initiatives. It provides guidance, intelligence, and tools to ensure breeding program strategies and investments support the development of market-demanded, gender-responsive, and climate-resilient varieties. EiB also offers services and resources to accelerate the rate at which new varieties can be developed, create a culture of continuous improvement in breeding programs, and manage and convert data created via advanced phenotypic and genotypic technologies. Additionally, it supports the conservation of plant genetic resources vital for the development of climate-adapted crops and resilient food systems.
