The Promise of Justice Initiative ’s film, Plantations and Prisons: A History of Forced Labor in Louisiana, gathers first-hand accounts of present-day slavery in Louisiana, where people in prisons, mostly Black, are forced to work under dangerous, sometimes humiliating conditions at their own physical peril. The film was screened this week at the Ford Foundation in partnership with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP as part of Promise of Justice Initiative's campaign to #EndPlantationPrisons . Promise of Justice Initiative is a New Orleans-based organization that fights for the dignity, freedom, and autonomy of those impacted by mass incarceration in Louisiana.
