Since being founded in Burlington, Vermont, in 1996 Good News Garage has provided over 5,500 New England families with donated vehicles, empowering them to move out of poverty and into financial independence and social stability.

GNG's Wheels to Work program provided transportation access to Granite Staters for 15 years, but funding for our programs was suddenly withdrawn in 2017. Our director of operations, Tyler Sullivan , joined the New England Council and the Vermont Business Roundtable for a breakfast discussion with Senator Peter Welch. We enjoyed a lively conversation centering around finding common ground and advocating for issues that matter most to Vermonters. Senator Welch, a strong proponent of bipartisanship, highlighted the need for collaboration – even across the political aisle – especially in today's highly polarized environment. At Good News Garage, we believe strong communities are built through collaboration, and that effective solutions often come from diverse perspectives. We are pleased to announce the promotion of Tyler Sullivan to the position of director of operations. Sullivan steps into the role after serving as the program manager for GNG’s Ready To Go micro-transit program. “Tyler possesses a keen focus on customer service combined with a drive for operational efficiency as well as innovation,” said Gary O’Neil, senior vice president of human development at Ascentria. “I am looking forward to partnering with Tyler as we build on the incredible success of GNG, leveraging his skills and talent to seek new ways to deepen and further the impact of the organization’s important work.” Born and raised in Vermont, Sullivan spent time working at Uber in Phoenix, Arizona as a community operations manager prior to joining GNG. This position provided invaluable experience in the transportation sector. As the manager of the Ready To Go program at GNG, Sullivan implemented new data tracking and analysis protocols that significantly improved operational performance and client experience. Sullivan’s appointment comes at an important time in Good News Garage’s 26-year history. Record-high car prices are leaving many people struggling to afford even the most modest vehicles. Without reliable cars, families have difficulty obtaining steady employment, which affects nearly every other aspect of their lives, including childcare, healthcare, and housing. Good News Garage accepts donated cars, repairs them as needed, and awards them to families in need. In 2023, 100 donated vehicles were awarded through partnerships with state agencies in Vermont and Massachusetts. Good News Garage is a member of Ascentria Care Alliance, one of the largest human services organizations in New England.
