HBAN is a platform that connects individual angels and syndicates to startups across the island of Ireland.

Angels on the HBAN platform have invested over €170m from private investors into more than 700 deals and exits with renowned companies such as Decawave ($400m), Glofox (€200m plus), Aventamed (undisclosed), Boxever (€130m) and several others.

The mission of HBAN is to foster a thriving angel investment ecosystem across the island of Ireland. We represent the views of angel investors and provide data-informed policy recommendations to the government, we championing inclusivity and diversity within the angel ecosystem and provide angel education. 
 
HBAN is a joint initiative of Enterprise Ireland and InterTrade Ireland.

Powerful insights shared with founders during our ’Raising Investment with HBAN’ event last Thursday, featuring a recently funded founder and an exclusive on newly launched angel collective, Tech Operators. The ‘smart money’ theme was strong throughout the event.

This in-person event at Dogpatch Labs was kicked off with Suzanne Mills providing an overview of the All-Island angel network including how founders can engage with angels through HBAN.

J Killian, founder of GreyScout, shared his top tips for a successful angel raise: 

“If you want to close your round fast, be sure to have your data room ready to go.  Be open to all cheque sizes - the value of angels goes beyond money. Strategic angels can unlock new channels and customers for you.”

Tech Operators, a newly formed angel collective of 30 senior tech leaders, is on a mission to help build the indigenous tech sector in Ireland. 

Maria McMenamin, founding member of Tech Operators and former Sales Leader Salesforce, Stripe and Pitch.io, shared “We aim to have a big impact by investing in pre-seed/seed tech startups and offering ongoing founder support through our quarterly meetings with the collective members”.

This week, we hosted our HBAN Founders Showcase, and want to extend our thanks to Nigel Cunningham and the Microsoft team for generously hosting us in Northern Ireland at their Belfast office. It was a valuable opportunity to hear from four outstanding founders about their investment opportunities.

We had the privilege of welcoming Patrick Ryan, Triin Linamagi, and Roderick Beer, who shared their invaluable insights on angel investing, adding significant depth to our event. We would like to thank all of the angel investors who participated, contributing to a wealth of shared knowledge and feedback.

HBAN All-Island Director Ciaran Gilsenan spoke to Jonathan Keane at the weekend around the broadly positive budget for angel investors and entrepreneurs.

We're planning more conversations with the Department of Finance over the coming weeks, particularly with respect to the 5% ownership requirement for an angel investor to be eligible for the lower rate of Capital Gains tax of 16pc. If we want to democratise investment then a more inclusive approach is to provide a tax benefit to all angels investors, regardless of cheque size.
