The International Group of P&amp;I Clubs (the IG) is an unincorporated association of the 12 principal underwriting Protection &amp; Indemnity (P&amp;I) Associations (Clubs) and their Affiliated Associations that between them provide liability cover (protection and indemnity) for approximately 90% of the world&#39;s ocean-going tonnage.

Each IG Club is an independent, non-profit making mutual insurance association, providing P&amp;I insurance cover for its shipowner and charterer members against third party liabilities relating to the use and operation of ships. Each Club is controlled by its members through a board of directors, or committee, elected from the membership.

We were delighted to sign an MOU with the University of Athens, School of Law ( Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon ), yesterday as part of Group’s Education outreach programme. Thanks to all those LLM students and Professors from the University who took part alongside so many local Greek Club office representatives. One of the key aims of this outreach is to raise awareness of the world of P&I and also diversify the pool of talent coming into the industry. The Group was delighted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Ottawa with Mario Pelletier, Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard/Garde côtière canadienne The MoU is part of the Outreach programme developed by the Group looking at major maritime casualties involving removal of wreck and other major incidents. It is focused on improving and streamlining the joint co-operation and casualty response of national maritime administrations/authorities and the Group clubs. A key focus of the MoU is joint preparedness training and involves experienced club personnel participating in training workshops and exercises with national administrations and authorities. Following the signing ceremony, representatives from the International Group conducted a workshop with the Coast Guard using a case study to go through an incident, and the respective roles and responsibilities on both sides. https://lnkd.in/ejg4rVF5 #largecasualty #outreach #collaboration #marine #safety

Sam Kendall-Marsden , Chair of the Group’s Large Claims Committee, led a delegation including Group CEO Nick Shaw and Enam Hussain in a full day’s workshop organised by the Group with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure today. Other attendees included the UAE Coastguard, plus some leading Club correspondents and lawyers from the region. The workshop, held in Dubai as part of the Group’s Large Claims outreach programme, was seeking to build on the existing communication channels and understanding with the maritime authorities in the UAE as well as to share lessons learned from some of the large casualties Group Clubs have handled. #casualtyresponse #maritimesafety #largecasualties

The International Group of P&I Clubs is pleased to award a fourth Fellowship at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI). The Fellowship for 2024-2025, which supports Master of Laws (LL.M) studies in International Maritime Law at IMLI in Malta, has been awarded to Ms. Switle Mae Tamang from the Philippines. Ms. Switle Mae Tamang, a Legal Officer in the Philippines Coast Guard, was selected after a thorough review process. We were delighted to meet with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) this morning at our offices. We discussed the MPA’s strategic vision, various common topics of interest and the Group’s role in helping Singapore to maintain its position as a key global shipping hub. As we celebrate World Maritime Day, the Group is keen to support the International Maritime Organization and align its own commitment to safety with this year's IMO theme.
