The American Investment Council (AIC), the premier trade association in Washington for the private investment industry, released its first Private Credit Trends Report. This quarterly report provides valuable insights into private credit activity.

Key findings from Q1 2024 include:

• Fundraising Success: Private debt funds raised $18 billion, reflecting strong investor confidence. 
• Loan Issuance: 133 loans were issued to U.S. companies, with a median loan size of $70 million. 
• Major Deals: MB2 Dental secured a $2.34 billion term loan, the largest deal of the quarter.
• Direct Lending Focus: Direct lending remains the leading strategy, managing $241 billion in assets. 
• Strong Returns: Private debt funds have shown exceptional returns, outperforming high-yield bonds and leveraged loans.
• Market Activity: In April 2024, $9.8 billion in collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) were issued.
