Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) is creating an inclusive green economy for the people of Los Angeles by unlocking innovation by working with startups to accelerate the commercialization of clean technologies, transforming markets through partnerships with policymakers, innovators, and market leaders in transportation, energy and sustainable cities, and enhancing communities through workforce development, pilots, and other programs. Founded as an economic development initiative by the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP), LACI is recognized as one of the most innovative business incubators in the world by UBI. In the past ten years, LACI has helped 340 portfolio companies raise over $1 billion in funding, $323 million in revenue, and create over 2,565 jobs, and a long term economic impact of $573 million throughout the Los Angeles region. 

LACI has been recognized as a top 10 global incubator by UBI and one of the Top 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators 2022 by Fast Company.

As CA state budget constricts, we can’t let climate innovators get pinched!

Clean energy innovators and entrepreneurs are driving economic growth and competitiveness in California, through job creation and technology development. However, many innovators and entrepreneurs in our state face challenges in securing the resources they need to build their businesses. Clean energy incubators and accelerators play a critical role in speeding up the growth and success of start-ups and early-stage companies by working with them to provide lab and office space, engage potential customers and investors, and develop their business models. 

In a state ravaged by wildfires, mudslides, and extreme heat that feels hotter (and is hotter) year after year, the California Energy Innovation Ecosystem is confronting the challenges of climate change with innovation and action. 

The accelerators that form this ecosystem, including LACI, Bluetech Valley, Cyclotron Road, and Cleantech San Diego, are propelling climate innovation forward. 

Interested in seeing new, sustainable goods replace wasteful products that harm our environment and threaten our health? Ecosystem accelerators are empowering the innovators driving those solutions. In fact, LACI alone has supported more than 400 businesses to develop, deploy, and scale clean technologies that meet the need for sustainable solutions in our communities.

Want to see more green jobs in California? Accelerators are leading the charge by training workforce participants for good-paying jobs in the green economy. 

Tired of breathing in the unhealthy air produced by the gas guzzling cars and trucks that fill our roads and freeways? Accelerators are building partnerships with local governments, utilities, and the private sector to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy and zero-emissions vehicles. 

Of course, it takes significant resources to keep these incubators up and running. But the results for our communities are nothing short of incredible. LACI has created more than 2600 jobs throughout the Los Angeles region, with a projected long-term economic impact of more than $587 million. Imagine if every state-supported organization could boast that kind of impact and return on investment!
