There was a lot of buzz about Coffee with a Cop, an annual event hosted by officers from Methodist Health System Police and Midlothian Police. They chatted with residents and staff at the Starbucks in Methodist Midlothian, served free doughnuts and coffee, and left us all feeling warm and full of gratitude for their care and service. The Richardson Chamber of Commerce awarded Methodist Richardson an EDGE award in economic development, growth, and entrepreneurship. The hospital won in the Community Impact category for supporting the overall well-being of the community. It was recognized for the Crisis Intervention Team, which helps police de-escalate interactions with citizens in a mental crisis, and for its partnership with the Richardson Fire Department and the University of Texas at Dallas to offer a free bystander CPR course.

A team of American doctors traveled to refugee camps along Syria's northwest border to offer lifesaving care to Syrians displaced by civil war and natural disaster. Anas Alomar, MD, chair of the department of medicine and medical director of cardiology at Methodist Southlake, was one of them. “After we got back, we realized we were only sleeping four hours a night while we were there,” Dr. Alomar says. “But in the moment, it felt amazing because you’re helping these people that no one else can help.
