METS Ignited is an Industry Growth Centre that has completed the Industry Growth Centre Initiative for Australia's Mining Equipment, Technology and Services sector. It was one of six Industry Growth Centres funded by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

In 2023 METS Ignited successfully completed the delivery of our industry-led, government-funded Industry Growth Centre Initiative for the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector.  

Our goal was to build capability, leveraging the experience of our world leading METS sector. Over 8 years we invested a little over $16 million dollars into 35 collaborative projects, with  over 75 Industry partners, attracting more than 2.5 x industry funding. These projects brought 20+ new Australian innovations to market. The companies delivering these projects created over 1000 new jobs, and are projecting additional annual revenues of over $900 million by 2025.

Our program proved local technology companies (vendors) are the most effective channel for translating local research and commercialising innovation; generating a return on investment for the benefit of the national economy.

Our legacy is our investment into Australia’s innovation ecosystem, supporting the creation of organisations such as CORE Innovation Hub, the Australian Automaton and Robotics Precinct (AARP), the Electric Mine Consortium (EMC), the Future Battery CRC, Unearthed, Atomic Sky, QuantumTX, EnviroMETS QLD and the Australian Innovation Exchange (AIX).

One of the many projects we were delighted to support in our time as an Industry Growth Centre. 
Success of projects like these depend on unselfish investments, from end market operators like Goldfields, who support a whole of industry transition to a future sustainable operating model.

As announced last month, METS Ignited Australia Ltd has successfully concluded our Industry Growth Centre Initiative (IGCI) funded by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. 

Our goal has been to accelerate commercialisation of innovation in Australia, enhance industry skills and capabilities, and grow exports from Australia’s Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector.

In our eight years of operation, METS Ignited invested $16 million into 35 projects, attracting over 2.5 times industry matched funding from 76 Industry partners. The success of these collaborative industry projects commercialised more than 20 new Australian innovations, creating over 1000 local jobs, with those companies projecting revenues' over $900 million by 2025.
 
In terms of building capability, we trained over 190 companies through 24 Industry Accelerators, and delivered 55 Masterclasses to more than 920 industry participants. We invested in multiple innovation hubs, precincts, clusters and consortiums to continue our legacy, including CORE Innovation Hub, Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct, enviroMETS Qld, Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre, Australian Innovation eXchange, Electric Mine Consortium, QuantumTX, and UWA Industry 4.0 Energy & Resources Digital Interoperability (ERDi) Test Lab just to name a few.  
 
All of this was achieved through the dedication of over 50 staff members, board members and secondee’s, as well as the support of numerous industry associations and partners who worked with us to achieve a common goal. 

In our final newsletter I mentioned building innovation capability is not a marathon, not a sprint, but a relay race. We have completed our leg, and pass the baton on with the sector in great shape. 

We are extremely proud of where we see Australia’s METS sector today, and encourage everyone to keep working together, building capability for the benefit of all. 
 
And finally, as we wind up our operating activity and say our goodbyes, we will continue to post success stories from our projects and partners through this channel.
