We fight poverty. Our job is to find the organizations best able to create change and give them what they need to do it.

The GiveDirectly website gets a lot of traffic. Olivia Chen and Dash Wieland ran a fascinating little experiment and found that an embedded donation form made people much more likely to donate. 

A website visitor was 34% more likely to donate if they saw Group C: the new design with an embedded donation form.

We scroll through a lot of non-profit websites and it baffles us how often organizations fail to make it easy, especially when it seems like individual donations is a big part of their fundraising strategy. Come on, make it easy!

amandla.mobi — led by Koketso Moeti — uses advocacy to get marginalized people what they’re owed by government. They have developed a systematic model for grassroots campaigning that results in real, meaningful pro-poor actions. They use everyday technology, like phones and websites, to get people involved in campaigns. What sets them apart is their rigorous focus on outcomes and accountability.

Conserve Global — co-led by Andrew Parker and Matt Rice — ensures thriving landscapes and resilient communities through community-led conservation of distressed concessions. They help establish community tenure over their land, set up systems to manage and look after it, and co-create a plan to take care of the landscape.

Mafisa — led by Charlotte Scott PhD — provides vet services, ensures regenerative grazing, and links herders to markets in Zambia. Herders can make a lot more money in a way that drives healthier grasslands. Mafisa aligns profits and impact: regenerated grasslands make cattle fatter, veterinary service ensure they are healthier and have more offspring, and market access drives more sales at better prices.

PemPem — led by Joann de Zegher — is creating a traceable commodity trading platform to end commodity-driven tropical deforestation. They’re starting with palm oil in Indonesia which is a leading cause of deforestation. Through the app,  farmers get reliable, consistent access to buyers, as long as they farm away from protected areas. This way, buyers know for sure that their products come from places that don't harm forests.

Planet Indonesia — co-led by Adam Miller and Novia Sagita — uses community commons management to create healthy tropical ecosystems and thriving communities. They provide communities with the tools, skills, and incentives to reverse the tragedy and effectively manage common resources to the benefit of all. At its core, they secure legal rights for communities over land and resources, and set up robust local environmental governance.
