Yesterday, Evelyn Lai represented Nacap Pty Ltd on the panel discussion for ‘Leadership in the Industry’ at the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association Annual Convention in Adelaide. The panel discussed the many ways that APGA and the industry are investing in the leaders of our industry. Evelyn highlighted the importance of an inclusive workplace culture using their experience as a non-binary person in a male dominated industry. Evelyn is a Site Engineer at Nacap and has contributed to a variety of projects around Australia and internationally. Evelyn remains passionate expanding their skillset and affording others the opportunities they need to do the same. Papua New Guinea celebrates its 49th Independence Day anniversary today, 16 September 2024. This national anniversary is celebrated nationwide with a gazetted public holiday to commemorate the day Papua New Guinea became an independent state from Australia on 16 September 1975. It is a significant event to the people of Papua New Guinea. Together we unite and stand as one, while celebrating the country's birth as an independent nation. Last Friday in Port Moresby, the Nacap team dressed in the Independence design of the Bird of Paradise displaying the most distinguished striking colours. There were smiles all around while we celebrated with homage based on prosperity. The celebration was an opportunity for our Port Moresby team to share their cultural heritage and staple foods. Happy Independence and safe celebrations.

Yesterday we acknowledged R U OK Day at our offices and project sites across Australia and PNG. And while there were various morning teas to bring people together to discuss this important subject, we know it's not about the cupcakes. The prevalence of mental health challenges and suicides in the construction industry is truly staggering. Research from Mates in Construction shows that construction workers are 8 times more likely to die from suicide than a workplace accident. And on average, we lose a construction worker to suicide every second day. So please, not just on R U OK Day, but every day, take the time to notice how your work mates are doing, and genuinely inquire as to whether they are OK. Nacap is excited to announce the appointment of two new Engineering Managers. Please join us in welcoming Rafid Al-Mahaidi and Timothy Robinson to their new positions. Rafid Al-Mahaidi brings a wealth of experience, with over 14 years of involvement in international and domestic large scale civil infrastructure projects. Nacap eagerly anticipates the expertise and insights Rafid will contribute to our team. Tim Robinson has been with Nacap for two years as a Senior Project Engineer working on the complex Kutubu refinery project in Papua New Guinea. The appointment of Tim demonstrates our commitment to grow and develop our people, and we are excited to see what both bring to the role. Nacap President Matthew O'Connell has said this is an exciting moment for Nacap and testament of our investment and strength in being a part of Australia and PNG’s energy transition.
