Formed in 1988, NCA has been providing support, technical assistance, and quality assurance for CACs, while serving as a voice for abused children for more than 25 years.  A children’s advocacy center is a child-friendly facility in which law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals work together to investigate abuse, help children heal from abuse, and hold offenders accountable.

Last week, NCA CEO Teresa Huizar and other leaders, advocates, and governments from across the globe gathered together in Bogotá, Colombia at the 1st Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children to make a powerful pledge: a future where every child grows up safe, protected, and free from violence. We were honored to recently host more than 110 leaders from rural, remote, frontier and Indigenous CACs across 37 states for our Rural CAC Convening in Bozeman, Montana! We truly appreciated the great interactions from the panel discussions providing solution-based information for our rural CAC leaders to share and reflect upon how to best meet some of the unique challenges that CACs face in serving children and families in rural communities, such as access to resources, training and education, partnerships, hiring and staffing, community awareness and outreach, and Accreditation support and resources. Thank you so much to everyone for coming and providing great insights to help serve children and families in these communities! We're committed to continue connecting our rural communities and have already launched a Rural CAC Leaders community on our NCA Engage platform that our members can join to ask their peers questions, share ideas, resources and solutions specific to rural populations. Last week, NCA Vice President of Programs Kimberly Day was in Reykjavik, Iceland to attend a workshop to help discuss international guidance for Barnahus, a child-friendly multidisciplinary and interagency response model for abused children. She was joined by representatives from UNICEF, the Council of Europe, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Europol, the International Standard Setting Organization (ISO) and 50 countries in the discussion. Kim was honored to represent NCA in this international workshop to help guide Barnahus!
