We are excited to announce a film produced for Operation Smile by BBC StoryWorks Works as part of the #BeyondTheCode series! Earlier this year, the BBC StoryWorks team filmed with us in Musanze, Rwanda, to capture how we are using AI technology to transform the surgical evaluation process for cleft conditions. This film highlights the life-changing impact of our work and demonstrates our commitment to advancing health equity through innovation. We are dedicated to creating sustainable solutions and driving innovations to ensure that all of our patients have access to the safe, high-quality care they deserve. Last month, from October 10-13, Operation Smile Egypt proudly hosted their first regional PACU and Clinical Coordinator Conference in Cairo. This landmark event brought together 30 emerging #healthcare leaders from five countries, strengthening their expertise in post-anesthesia care and clinical coordination, and marking a significant step forward for #cleftcare in the MENA region. The conference featured hands-on workshops, scenario-based discussions, and simulation sessions led by our esteemed international instructors. Sessions covered critical topics such as preoperative considerations, OR flow, PACU and postoperative care, neurological complications, and airway management. Participants also engaged in simulations focused on managing malignant hyperthermia and postoperative palatal hemorrhage, equipping them with invaluable skills to enhance care for our patients born with cleft conditions and to better support their communities. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this training possible, including our dedicated instructors, organizers, volunteers, and the Operation Smile Egypt team. A special thank you to His Excellency, Ambassador Mohamed Aiato of Morocco, for visiting the conference, as well as to Plinio Enrique Sierra Ruiz , Ann Campbell , Biju Abraham , Saber Mostafa , Fouzia Mahmoudi , Nour Mahmoudi , Joseph Feduniewicz , Taylor Ringer, and Toka Abdel-Hamid . We’re thrilled to share that recently Operation Smile Philippines proudly opened the Cebu Comprehensive Cleft Care Center of Excellence! After months of hard work and dedication, this state-of-the-art facility is now ready to serve not only Cebu City and the Visayas region but also make a global impact in #cleftcare . Designed as a global hub for cleft care and training, the center features advanced operating rooms, pre- and post-operative beds, dental chairs, and specialized consultation, speech therapy, psychosocial, and medical education areas. In addition to providing high-quality surgical and comprehensive care, the center will host live-streamed surgeries and educational programs, creating opportunities to train the next generation of cleft care experts. This facility will significantly enhance cleft care in the region and beyond, benefiting our patients, their families, and future generations of #healthcare professionals. Last month, Operation Smile in Madagascar proudly unveiled the Smile Mobile, a clinic on wheels that brings essential care directly to communities. Launched earlier this year with support from local donors, the Ministry of Public Health, and Novo-Comm Ogilvy , this innovative clinic expands access to non-surgical #cleftcare across Madagascar. The Smile Mobile provides vital services to patients in remote areas, ensuring they can access care without having to travel long distances. This mobile clinic offers essential non-surgical services, including #nutrition support for underweight patients to help them regain their health and prepare for surgery, dental care such as extractions and cleanings to promote #oralhealth , and psychosocial support to assist our patients and their families in navigating any the emotional and social challenges. Our dedicated team of nutritionists, dentists, psychosocial providers, and volunteers ensures that each patient receives tailored support, marking a significant advancement in comprehensive cleft care across the island.
