Over 1 billion people worldwide have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed, and 81% — 826 million people — only need reading glasses to correct their sight. 90% live in low and middle-income countries and cannot access or afford the glasses they need to see clearly. People as early as age 35 are dropping out of the workforce due to presbyopia and being driven deeper into poverty for this reason: a lack of access to reading glasses.

🌍 On this #InternationalDayfortheEradicationofPoverty , we celebrate the inspiring story of Marta from Guatemala, a skilled seamstress who faced challenges in supporting her family due to poor vision. Without access to proper eyeglasses, Marta struggled to work alongside her husband and contribute to their household income. With the eyeglasses she recieved from RestoringVision, Marta regained her ability to see clearly and returned to her craft. Now, she works as a seamstress alongside her husband, doubling their earning potential and helping to lift her family out of poverty. ✨ At RestoringVision, we are proud to align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 – No Poverty. Today, on #IndigenousPeoplesDay we celebrate the rich cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities across the United States. Since launching our collaborative program with Walking Shield, Inc. in 2022, we have provided critical vision services and eyeglasses to thousands of Native Americans across 10 reservations, tribes, and organizations. By implementing our services through existing health facilities, we are directly addressing the pressing need for access to vision care in these underserved communities. This partnership reflects our commitment to translating empathy into action, ensuring that Indigenous peoples have the tools they need to thrive. Together, we are proud to have made strides toward improving education opportunities, productivity, and overall well-being for Native Americans across the country.
