SIFMA has submitted four comment letters related to prudential regulation to the Federal Reserve Board, the OCC, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC):
 
1. US Basel III NPR Response, signed by SIFMA and ISDA: This response warns that the proposed increases in capital for banking organizations capital markets activities are far greater than stated in the NPR and are not commensurate with the underlying risks. 👉  https://bit.ly/48NswvO 

2. G-SIB Surcharge Consultation, signed by SIFMA and ISDA:  This response raises concerns that the proposed changes would lead to unwarranted and large capital requirements for banks offering client clearing services, potentially discouraging them from participating in this business and contravening a long-standing policy objective to promote central clearing. 👉 https://bit.ly/48NswvO

3. US Basel III NPR Response and G-SIB Surcharge Consultation, signed by SIFMA's Asset Management Group (SIFMA AMG): This response shares concerns about the potential far-reaching and adverse effects that the proposals may have on investors with respect to pricing, transaction costs, and market liquidity. 👉 https://bit.ly/3vzGgf7 

4. Operational Risk Elements of the Proposed U.S. Implementation of the Basel III Proposal, signed by SIFMA and FIA, Inc.: This response specifically addresses proposed changes that would adversely affect bank provided fee-based business activities that are critical to the functioning of the U.S. capital markets. 👉 https://bit.ly/3HkgaiG 

SIFMA believes that, given important analytical gaps in the Basel III Endgame proposal and the need for material calibration changes, the agencies must re-propose the entire rule for public comment with a new 120-day comment period. Any re-proposal should explicitly define the specific capital problems that need to be addressed and how a proposed solution would address them and should be backed up by a robust economic analysis demonstrating the benefits and costs of the proposed changes.

Tom will serve in his current role as Managing Director and Head
of SIFMA’s Operations & Technology Group through May 2024, leading the
industry transition efforts through the May 28 T+1 implementation date.
Following that he will serve as a senior advisor, providing for a smooth
transition to new leadership of the group. We are grateful for his leadership,
commitment, and camaraderie over the years, where he led and participated in numerous critical industry initiatives, including the transition of securities
settlement from T+3 to T+2 and the growth and expansion of SIFMA’s Business Continuity programs, which included the establishment of our industry-leading cyber resilience practice.
