How do you build a farmer-owned tea factory in the Himalayas? With cranes, trains, and automobiles! Our farmer partner and the factory's CEO Desmond sent me this video of moving this Chinese piece of machinery into place. This piece of equipment was made in China, shipped through Kolkata, transferred onto a truck, then driven up to the Kumaon Himalayas. So technically, no trains on this one, although others have been 

It's a shaping machine, which flips the harvested tea leaf in the air for hours, giving it a pearl shape that unfurls as it steeps in the cup. It also weighs about 3,500 lb, so Desmond talked to a friend at a local construction company to lend us one for a few hours....pays to have local partners who know people! 

The team of 7 engineers who are installing all the machinery are at the factory now. We're getting closer and closer to first production!

Our first turbine has been instrumented with strain gages, accelerometers, linear displacement sensors, and cameras so that we can validate its performance. The turbine is successfully tracking the wind and regulating speed with blade pitch!
