We recently partnered with WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease and Bayer to host an event focused on advancing women’s heart health through early detection, prevention, and education. Our expert speakers, Dr. Heather Pemberton, a non-invasive cardiologist at The Texas Heart Institute Center for Cardiovascular Care , and Dr. Gerhard Albrecht , global medical director of cardiology at Bayer, shared valuable insights on women’s unique cardiovascular risks and the impact of environmental factors on heart health. We were honored to have Houston-area WomenHeart Champions, Kimberly Connell and Tannie Barnes-Coward , share their inspiring stories of resilience and the importance of support groups for women living with heart disease. Yaxin Wang and Chris Hoi Houng Chan , are at the forefront of a groundbreaking project to develop a revolutionary new heart pump designed for pediatric patients. This collaborative effort, including researchers from Baylor College of Medicine , Texas Children's Hospital , and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas has been awarded funding through the prestigious 2024 Single Ventricle Research Fund (SVRF). The "ReVolution" pump is designed to improve the lives of infants with single-ventricle heart disease who have undergone the Fontan procedure.
