True or False: The human brain has more neurons than there are stars in the Milky Way? False – but both numbers are equally mind-blowing! The Milky Way contains between 100 billion and 400 billion stars, though the exact number is hard to pinpoint. In comparison, the human brain holds about 86 billion neurons. Still pretty incredible, right? Each neuron connects with thousands of others, creating an intricate network that drives everything we think, feel, and do. 🧠 Shining a spotlight on Rebekah C. Evans, Ph.D. from Georgetown University ! With support from the 2023 Dementia Society of America Seed Grant, Dr. Evans is diving into how exercise affects the brain. Her team is looking at what happens inside brain cells during exercise to better understand how it can protect against diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and how it helps keep our minds sharp.
