We have 50 beautifully designed and woven AO3 blankets thanks to a generous donation from Fiber Art Weavers ( https://www.fiberart.com )! The blankets are 54"x72" in size, and made in the United States from recycled cotton with sustainable practices. Due to the finite number, we are unable to offer reservation of the blanket the same way we do for other donation gifts. Hot off the press! Horror media is often critiqued for stereotypes around gender, race, and mental illness. This paper traces fandom uptake of critical practices across video gaming live-streaming and cosplaying as well as social media and fanfiction texts relating to the critically acclaimed 2015 video game “Until Dawn.” We explore the extent to which fans collectively disrupt or restory problematic elements from this video game text across modalities. We suggest parents and educators can help youth critically engage with video games that are meaningful to them by jointly discussing how individual players and surrounding fandoms engage (or hesitate to engage) in collective critical endeavors together. If you haven’t played the “Until Dawn” game yet, keep your eyes peeled because there’s a movie confirmed! We’re wondering how they’ll address the butterfly effect mechanics and to what extent they’ll take a page from the fandom to address some of the problematic elements of the game’s storytelling. Though you may have seen me presenting on cosplaying as a literacies practice these last 5+ years, this is my first publication about it.
