The business of JG Summit started in 1954 when Universal Corn Products, Inc. (now Universal Robina Corporation) was established to operate a cornstarch plant in Manila. Since then, JG Summit has pioneered breakthroughs, broadened its enterprise and stayed at the forefront in every phase of the country's rise to development - the entrepreneur, who invested in agribusiness and the manufacture of feeds and prime food commodities; the visionary, who channeled resources and expanded into financial services, textile and property, all backbones of a growing economy; the captain of industry, who invested in power, telecommunications, petrochemicals, cement, and air transportation, all requisites for industrialization; the innovator, who continually provides value and fun in snacking; and the new regional multinational, who has embraced the challenge of global competitiveness with zeal.

REMEMBERING A GREAT LEGACY: In celebrating the life and legacy of Mr. John Gokongwei Jr., the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation screened the documentary, "A Boy, a Bicycle, and a Legacy: Remembering John Gokongwei Jr." at the newly opened Opus Mall in Bridgetowne.

The film showing also marks Gokongwei Brothers Foundation's 32nd Anniversary, a testament to Mr. John’s unwavering belief that education is key to nation-building. Together with his brothers—Henry, Johnson, and James—they established the Foundation in 1992 to empower Filipinos through STEM education.

Under the Gokongwei Group’s #JuanCommitment program, JG Summit Corporate Center Units conducted its #JuanBrigada activities at Eulogio Rodriguez Integrated School in Mandaluyong City. Volunteer employees distributed personal care, general cleaning and school supplies to students and faculty-staff. The volunteers had the privilege to learn more about the deaf community in the school. We also installed emergency signal lights to enhance school safety.

Like you, he believed in the strength of education as a cornerstone in nation building. 

On his 80th birthday, Dad donated half of his personal holdings in JG Summit Holdings Inc.  to the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation 
 
He wanted to focus on giving the Filipino youth the opportunity to receive quality Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education. 
 
He wanted to help educate the next generation and the generations to come, so that they could continue to move our country forward.

Congratulations to the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation led by my sister, Lisa Gokongwei Cheng and Grace Colet, and the rest of the GBF team on this moving film released in celebration of GBF’s 32nd anniversary.
