Making the manufacturing industry safer with Advanced Hydrogen Sensors

A*STAR researchers are pioneering advanced hydrogen sensors that will make working with hydrogen safer and more productive. By measuring the purity of hydrogen concentrations at various stages of production in real time, factories are able to significantly improve their manufacturing yields by maintaining optimum hydrogen purity.

A*STAR’s R&D spans across a spectrum of #AI topics aimed at driving economic and societal impact.

For example:

- Smart Automated Aircraft Visual Inspection System by Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R) can detect over 30 types of airframe defects with minimal training data and proactively predicts potential failures in systems and components
- Merlion AI, also by I²R, is a part of Singapore's National Multimodal Large Language Model Programme reduces error propagation in education, transportation, and healthcare applications.
- The Digital Ophthalmology platform by the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) can detect 14 diseases and eye conditions from a single eye scan, providing low-cost, scalable, and non-invasive screening for early disease detection and prevention.
- A!Path a diagnostic model by Bioinformatics Institute, A*STAR, enhances efficiency by reducing Gleason scoring time for assessing prostate cancer cell patterns by 43% compared to conventional methods.

These innovations and more will be demonstrated at the IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Singapore from 25 to 27 June.

Metalenses are a flat, optical technology that are set to disrupt the current lens market as they can outperform current lenses with a smaller footprint. However, mass-production of these metalenses have not been achieved yet, thus the inability for mass-commercialisation. 
 
This is where MetaOptics Technologies comes in. Through their collaborations with A*STAR, they are poised to be an end-to-end solution for metalenses, from design, to prototyping, testing and mass production, this tiny company is set to be a global powerhouse. 
 
With A*STAR’s support, MetaOptics’ parent company MetaSurface Technologies will also be listing on GEM of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in July. The listing would poise them for further growth and expansion, and increase their competitiveness for future business strategies.

At the recent AmCham Singapore Healthcare Conference: Agile Collaboration to Revolutionise Healthcare organised by the The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham Singapore), Dr Maurer-Stroh, shared how technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (#AI), are transforming the healthcare landscape. Leveraging AI, solutions and developments such as the improvement of diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, acceleration of drug development, treatment customisations, and creation of patient self-management tools are well underway. 
 
Speaking alongside Andy Ta, Director, Data aNalytics & AI (DNA) & Chief Data Officer of Synapxe Pte. Ltd and Anwar R., PBM, CEO & Co-Founder of MyCLNQ Health, Dr Maurer-Stroh also discussed how A*STAR’s Bioinformatics Institute (BII) is working with other public and private agencies to streamline healthcare delivery.
