What does it take for a woman to break into the #VC world?

Our General Partner, Carmen Yuen recently shared her journey of how she landed a VC role in Her World Singapore, Singapore's leading magazine for women, and she gave her advice for aspiring female investors in the making:

1/ Despite the VC landscape still resembling a "boys' club," with only 17.4% of decision-makers in Southeast Asia-based venture investors being women (as per recent figures from DealStreetAsia), Carmen is optimistic that VC firms are increasingly recognising the incredible value that a diverse team brings to the table.

2/ In an industry where women often feel the need to adopt a more masculine approach to be heard, Carmen's counsel is refreshingly authentic. She encourages aspiring female investors not to shy away from being their true selves. For her, authenticity and genuine relationships, nurtured through meaningful conversations (perhaps over a cup of coffee), have proven to be the most effective approach.

3/ Building relationships is important but it is also important not to lose sight of the core task. After all, she shared, it's your expertise and success in this aspect that garners the respect and recognition that aspiring women investors deserve in the long run.
