Am 26. Januar 1924 nahm das Walchenseekraftwerk seinen Betrieb auf und ist noch heute eines der größten Speicherkraftwerke Deutschlands. 🌍💡

Dieses Meisterwerk der Ingenieurskunst, das nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg entstand, beschäftigte über 2.000 Arbeiter und Ingenieure, die 40.000 Kubikmeter Gestein und loses Material bewegten - ein Zeugnis für das Engagement und die Innovationskraft der damaligen Zeit.

Can vegetable oil fuel vital power plants? 🥔🥕🥦 We’re finding out and here's why it’s important. 

The decarbonisation of power plants is essential for Uniper to meet our goal of being completely decarbonised by 2035.  

Our veteran power plants are no exception: commissioned in 1973 and 1976, the Franken power plants in Nuremberg are the site of an important feasibility study into switching from gas and light fuel oil to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

HVO is a greener fuel with similar properties to diesel or light fuel oil, making it a promising alternative for efficient decarbonisation. But it’s important to carefully test the fuel’s performance – peaking plants such as Franken must be ready to jump into action whenever needed to maintain security of energy supply. 🔥

🎉 Happy 100th birthday to Walchensee Power Plant! What a story it has been for this electrification pioneer!

On January 26, 1924, the remarkable journey of the Walchensee power plant began, marking not only its inception but also the start of Bavaria's electrification. 🌍💡

This masterpiece of engineering, crafted in the aftermath of World War I, employed over 2,000 workers and engineers who moved 40,000 cubic meters of rock and loose material – a testament to the dedication and innovation of its time.

Dr. Klaus Engels, Director of Hydropower Germany, expresses our pride in having such a vital plant in our portfolio: "January 26, 1924 not only marks the birth of the Walchensee power plant, but also the beginning of the electrification of Bavaria."

Holger Kreetz, our COO, highlights the significance of the plant: "The Walchensee power plant in particular shows that hydropower is Uniper, Uniper is hydropower. The perfect combination of climate protection and affordable security of supply – and we've been doing this for 100 years!"

Contract signed! Uniper and E.disnatur conclude agreement for wind onshore power🚨 We're thrilled to announce our first onshore wind PPA in Germany with e.disnatur Erneuerbare Energien GmbH This deal involves power delivery from seven wind onshore parks across East Germany, adding approximately 43 GWh average to our green energy portfolio. 

Starting January 2024, we’ll receive green power from E.disnatur for an initial one-year term. What’s more, we’ve also secured a direct agreement for green guarantees of origin (GoOs).
  
This PPA marks another step in our journey towards a net-zero reality, bolstering our commitment to expanding green energy capacity.
