Meeting with financial regulators on climate risk is always fascinating. One recent common thread is a shared concern that climate change will impact smaller lenders more than their larger peers. This can be due to a range of reasons but geographical diversification in larger balance sheets and greater internal resources to screen and analyse portfolios appear to advantage bigger lenders. Our groundbreaking collaboration with HKMA is a great example of a regulator taking steps to address this information asymmetry.
