Recent developments demonstrate the clinical trial industry’s economic impact and its efforts to improve inclusion in areas where it has otherwise fallen short. At Research Grid, we're proud to be part of the movement driving progress in clinical trials, both in terms of efficiency and inclusion. We do this by automating the back office for admin-free trials and enabling more inclusive participant engagement. Here are some of the key updates that are shaping clinical research. 🇬🇧 UK 1️⃣ £400 million investment into UK clinical trials The UK will invest £400 million to open up to 18 new clinical trial hubs, enhancing the NHS 's appeal for research. This public-private initiative aims to fast-track new medicines, improve patient recruitment, and boost research infrastructure. 2️⃣ ABPI report on clinical research economics The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) Industry published a report investigating the impact of the clinical trial industry. Available data shows that industry clinical trials contribute £7.4 billion to the economy and prevent 3 million sick days annually. 🇪🇺 Europe 3️⃣ EMA's new Clinical Trial Information System (CTIS) The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has launched a new Clinical Trial Information System (CTIS) to streamline approvals and enhance transparency for clinical trials. Under revised regulations, the platform simplifies trial submissions across Europe, increases public access to trial data, and reduces approval times. 4️⃣ EU researchers are tackling childhood cancer disparities EU-funded researchers are improving childhood cancer treatment through international cooperation to reduce survival rate disparities across Europe. 🇺🇸 US 5️⃣ New National Council on Disability report on clinical trials The National Council on Disability released a report outlining how federal agencies implicitly and explicitly exclude people with disabilities from clinical trials, which contributes to health disparities between disabled and non-disabled populations. 6️⃣ The NIH creates a nursing home research network The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded nearly $15.5 million to the NEXT STEPs initiative. This five-year project aims to establish a national network to increase nursing home residents' participation in clinical trials, improving research infrastructure. Inequality in clinical research is a deeply complex issue, and the introduction of innovative technological solutions is just one tool that can help researchers rectify the disparity. This UK Black History Month, we’re highlighting (again) how crucial making trials more representative is to ensuring research is beneficial to all. While the UK population is becoming more diverse, clinical trials do not reflect this fact, with only 14% of randomized controlled trial participants self-identifying as non-white. Clinical research is meant to be designed to be relevant, representative, and beneficial for every population. Here are some of the ways that we support researchers with increasing diversity in clinical trials: 👩💻 Innovative technology: AI and digital tools like Inclusive help reach underrepresented groups globally to increase accessibility. 🗣 Targeted recruitment strategies: Supportive tools to reduce barriers to participation for diverse populations, including building long-standing relationships with community groups. 🤝 Inclusive partnerships: Opportunities to collaborate with community organizations and advocacy groups to promote transparency and improve recruitment efforts. 🧠 Cultural competence: Tools to design trials and outreach efforts that are culturally sensitive and accessible to all potential participants. We’ve found that the best way to achieve this is by involving and co-creating with diverse communities at every stage of the research process, including with our technology. Focusing on multimodal strategies like those described above breaks barriers to making medicine accessible for everyone who needs it.

Last week was an exciting one for Research Grid, as our Founder and CEO, Amber Michelle H. represented the company at two incredible events. ⭐ Black Tech Fest 2024 First, Dr Hill took part in a panel at BTF 2024 alongside, Mark Bergen , from Bloomberg and Raffi Salama , Founder of Passionfruit , and chaired by Justin K. from Milltown Partners . The session explored how founders manage their reputations in today's fast-paced market with their clients, stakeholders, and teams. She shared how Research Grid communicates the delivery of its solutions and fosters a strong internal culture that reflects our mission of making clinical trials faster and more successful. A huge thanks to Colorintech for another successful BTF® and for creating a diverse space for leaders to share their journeys! 📈 London Stock Exchange Next, Dr Hill took the stage at the London Stock Exchange , showcasing how Research Grid is automating the clinical trial back office to a room packed with industry leaders and investors. She was one of 6 tech founders selected to pitch at the event, Female Founders: Connecting Companies to Capital. The event also featured a panel chaired by Hephzi Pemberton , with Liz Upton , Co-Founder of Raspberry Pi , Martina King , CEO of Featurespace , and Dan Bowyer , Partner at SuperSeed VC, discussing company growth, #IPO , and exit as well as strategies for the UK to eliminate diversity barriers to funding.
