Staff Recognition Awards 2024 winner 🎉 Supportive Colleague – Rasa Mikelyte 👏 Working in the Centre for Health Service Studies, Rasa has been recognised for going above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure people feel valued, included and supported. Her colleague said: “Rasa willingly gives her time, expertise and experience to help all of us navigate various university systems - CHSS would not be the same without her!" Staff Recognition Awards 2024 winner 🎉 Innovation Champion – Emma Kember 👏 This year’s award went to Emma for been instrumental in shaping the future of student placement teams across the institution. Her colleague said: “Emma’s innovative spirit and commitment to excellence have made a real difference in her field, pushing the boundaries and inspiring others with her ground-breaking work.” Special mention to our runners up Alexandra Moores in her leadership role for academic advising and wider skills development and Jenny Tullet for her innovative research in ageing and post-graduate student wellbeing.

Staff Recognition Awards 2024 winner 🎉 Great Team – Kent Sport - Billy Radford , Charlie Dast , Luke Sullivan , Dean Gonsalves 👏 Kent Sport won the award for their outstanding contributions to the University of Kent community through their organization of the Vice-Chancellor's Cup (VC's Cup). Their colleague said: “their commitment to organizing the range of VC’s Cup events , often going above and beyond their regular duties, is truly commendable.” Special mention to our Apprenticeships Ofsted Team for their above-and-beyond dedication in advance preparation and to the Facilities and Reception Services for their can-do attitude and enormous camaraderie as a team.

Staff Recognition Awards 2024 winner 🎉 Community Ambassador – The Parkinson's Centre for Integrated Therapy👏 The PCIT Team won this award for providing ground-breaking services (integrated therapy, social opportunities and the chance to be involved in research projects) for people with Parkinson's in the local community and beyond. Their colleague said: “PCIT is making a big difference to the lives of many local people with Parkinson's.” Special mention to our runner's up Nick Skelton for his brilliant tennis coaching to staff and students and to Hannah Greer for her amazing work in the Careers and & Employability Service.

Last night we celebrated our annual Staff Recognition Awards! 🎉 Keep an eye out over the next week or so as we'll be highlighting our amazing winners starting with... Inspiring leader - Chloe Street Tarbatt 👏 Having taken the headship of the School of Architecture, Design and Planning only two years ago, Chloe won the award for championing the School's real potential and increase growth. Her colleagues said: “Chloe deserves to be awarded this prize for being a beacon of inclusive and effective management, for her incredible dedication to the cause, and, for overarching support to us all in the School.” Special mention to our runner's up Justine Rush for her innovative work within the library and David Williams for his outstanding leadership as interim Director for the Division of Human and Social Sciences.

We're incredibly proud to announce that we took home the “Benefitting Society” Award at the Green Gown Awards in recognition of our work as the world’s first Right to Food University! 🏆 Partnering with The Food Foundation, the project sees us working alongside our students, staff, and the wider community to tackle food inequality and inspire systemic change in the food system. Singling out Kent in this category, the judges said that the Right to Food is: ‘A very well thought out and planned programme, addressing a critical societal issue at present. The judges felt that this stood out as being innovative and having a significant benefit to society. Right to Food standard has developed as a blueprint for other universities. Students can benefit in a variety of ways by engaging on the project. This is something we could all do and should all be doing.’ ➡️ https://bit.ly/4fPpQkw

We are very proud of 4th Year Kent and Medway Medical School student Zahra, who recently stepped in to help a disorientated lady who had fallen and needed help in Canterbury 👏 Zahra performed some of the emergency skills she had been taught at KMMS and was able to put in to practice the teaching she had had on placement. The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Counsellor Jean Butcher recognised her empathy and kindness, saying: "I am impressed by the care and compassion you showed to a stranger without a moment’s hesitation. Please accept our deepest gratitude. Yours is an example we would all do well to follow”.

Happy National Engineering Day! 🎉 Today, we’re celebrating the incredible ways engineers shape our world and highlighting the talented students at Kent who are already making a difference 🌎 Meet Leah—a budding engineer who has designed a vibration measuring device using an ADXL335 accelerometer to monitor motor vibrations across the X, Y, and Z axes. Her project displays results on an OLED screen, with intuitive button controls to switch between directions. In industry, technology like this can be scaled up to monitor vehicle engine vibrations, ensuring they meet safety standards for commercial use!
