📖 Our School of Arts & Humanities presents a book launch and lecture on Wednesday 13 November from 6pm at RCA Battersea from Professor Carol Mavor from The University of Manchester on 'Serendipity: The Afterlife of the Object', her new book to be published in 2024 by REAKTION BOOKS LIMITED exploring sadness, as well as the joy, of unexpected discoveries in history and life including insights on writers from Emily Dickinson to Vladimir Nabokov. Professor Carol Mavor will present an illustrated lecture on the book followed by a Q&A session, after which there will be an opportunity to talk informally with a glass of wine and purchase a copy of the book Carol Mavor is an artist-historian, who began her career as an art-maker, performing on stage with her large-scale manipulable sculptures. Meet the World Design Congress Ambassadors! 📢 Five sector leading figures from the world of design have come together to lend their voices in support of next year’s crucial theme; Design for Planet 🌍 Representing leadership and innovation in British design, the five Ambassadors are artist and stage designer, es devlin ; industrial designer, Tom Dixon ; fashion designer; Foday Dumbuya ; creative and technology leader, Suhair Khan ; and architect, Dr Lesley Lokko OBE. As Ambassadors they will nominate a cohort of some of the most incredible designers who are blazing a trail in sustainable design practice to shine a light and inspire systemic change 💡 It is imperative that designers use their power, no matter what stage of their journey they are at, to help tackle the greatest challenge of our lifetime. St James’ C of E Primary School in Bermondsey named the class after their former student, who is a self-taught emerging artist with a growing reputation, in an event that inspired their students with Leopold's creative journey and offered them real world insights into contemporary art 👏

🚽 The Mayor of London has announced a £15 million investment to open more public toilets across Transport for London , as outlined today in an Evening Standard article that features quotes from our own Gail Ramster , who runs the Public Toilet Research Unit. “Public toilets are critical infrastructure for us to access and enjoy our city, and yet they are so rarely invested in or even discussed, so it is commendable to see this commitment from TfL," says Gail.
