We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Paul Stephenson OBE, following his passing. Paul leaves a legacy of dedicated activism and campaigning, helping to dismantle race discrimination through the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963 which paved the way for the first Race Relations Act in the UK two years later. The university enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Paul, presenting him with a Master of Education Honorary Degree in 2009. Paul recognised the power of education to change lives, and the university went on to work closely with him to launch the Paul Stephenson Bursary in 2020, a grant for Global Majority students to access higher education and support their first two years of study.
