Our team of hosts – including our expert Ophthalmic Surgeon Dr Mirna Belovari , Andras Zsolt Dr. Szigeti (Optometrist), Gemma Frost (NHS Partnership Executive) and Lee Stanley (Head of Service Development) – all contributed to a very successful evening with a fantastic turn-up. Today, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and protected, ensuring a future where we can live freely. Remembrance Day 2024. I had the privilege of spending the day speaking with patients undergoing their first or second cataract surgery at our ACES Clinic in Dartford. It was incredibly rewarding to hear their personal stories and receive such positive feedback about their journey with ACES so far. I felt immense pride in my colleagues, who are always focused on ensuring that our patients are at the heart of what we do. Together, we strive to provide a seamless and successful procedure for everyone, with the goal of improving their quality of life. One patient I had the pleasure of speaking with was Mr. Donald Dean, pictured here with our skilled surgeon, Mr. Ernest Onyema. Referred by his local opticians, Specsavers Optometrists in Swanley, Mr. Dean shared that he had worn glasses since childhood and always remembers breaking them while playing. Today, he was excited to have his cataract removed. My connection with Mr. Dean, especially hearing about his history, paints a vivid picture of the personal stories behind each patient. It’s clear to me that the care and dedication at ACES go beyond just medical procedures; we are contributing to life-changing experiences for our patients. Our ACES clinics located in Plymouth and Torquay are now welcoming NHS patients for pre-assessments, who will then be given cataract surgery at the treatment clinic of their choice – such as our nearby ACES Exeter clinic. We can offer patients an initial pre-assessment within 2 weeks of their referral, and aim to treat patients in as little as 4 weeks from their pre-assessment for cataract surgery. Heather Chennells, our NHS Partnership Executive for Anglia, recently took part in two further events on the route of the “WOW Bus” – the “PositiviTea” events held at the Treehouse Cafe in Holt and at the North Walsham community centre. Events like these are amazing opportunities for locals to have face-to-face conversations about the health services and support available to them in the surrounding area.
