HR professionals flocked to the Cheltenham Chase Hotel yesterday morning to attend BPE Solicitors LLP ’s Employment team’s annual Employment Law Update in collaboration with CIPD . What was covered? ⭐ Stephen Conlan and Emily Arnold discussed key cases and legal changes from the past year and looked forwards to Labour’s extensive proposed changes to the employment law landscape. ⭐ Sarah Lee looked at harassment in the workplace and explained the new duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. ⭐ Steve Conlay talked about managing the modern workplace, with examples and ideas around embracing generational diversity in the workplace. We were also joined by Michael Marziano from Westkin Associates who gave us information about the latest changes in right to work checks. Did you know that it’s now an employer’s duty to provide their employees with reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace? The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 has been in place since 26 October 2024. A government consultation in 2021 discovered that 54% of employees had experienced sexual harassment in the workplace. It is now a mandatory duty for employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
