Cellexcel is a company focused on the chemical modification of biomaterials, enabling the production of sustainable solutions for demanding environments and applications not typically associated with biomaterials.

The latest spin-off from the University of East Anglia, Cellexcel has created a novel process to manufacture water-resistant bio-composite materials. These will replace conventional composites such as fiberglass & carbon fibre, as well as plastics and possibly metal. Applications include external automotive components and panels, leisure craft and outdoor furniture, lowering the carbon footprint of their manufacture.

As a UK finalist, the Cellexcel team and its technology, is again recognised for its use of sustainable chemistry to molecularly modify cellulose, enabling the performance properties of all biomaterials to be significantly enhanced and exponentially extend the applications for carbon capturing biomaterials.

What an amazing afternoon shared with the other winners of the cofinitive #21toWatch Award. We are delighted to be one of the 7 companies in the East of England tipped for great things in 2024! This award comes hot on the heels of our win at the University of East Anglia Innovation and Impact Awards and making it to the finals of the JEC Composites Startup Competition. It’s great to see our technology for making biomaterials water resistant generating so much interest across industry and the start-up community.
