At Eversfield Organic we do everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment and work with nature from the ground up. By supporting our network of organic farms, we are reducing food miles and providing a haven for bees, birds insects and other creatures that flourish in the pastures and hedgerows. Our farms only use organic fertilisers and employ rotational grazing to improve the pasture quality and keep the soil healthy which helps offset atmospheric CO2. Our animals are fed a natural pasture diet, free from growth hormones and grain, meaning they live a longer life, growing at a slower pace, as nature intended. Encouraged to express their natural active and inquisitive behaviour by grazing outdoors, our animals remain happy and healthy. The nutrients that our animals gain from eating a 100% pasture diet are passed on to you when you eat our delicious meat, which is rich in essential minerals and vitamins, lean protein and omega-3 fatty acids. We’ve been reading Hedgelands, a new book by Christopher Hart, about the important role our native hedgerows play in the ecosystem of our countryside. Hedgerows act as wildlife corridors, allowing animals to move safely between habitats. Birds, bees, and butterflies rely on the blossoms and berries provided by hedgerows for food, while many small mammals use the dense vegetation for shelter and breeding grounds. Furthermore, hedgerows help to prevent soil erosion, reduce flooding by slowing water runoff, and improve air quality by capturing pollutants. It is even thought that planting more hedgerows would be more effective than planting new trees in helping the UK reach its net zero target.
