4/4 REGIONAL VARIATIONS Although Wales continued to be the cheapest part of the UK to buy a used car (£14,638), there were some notable YoY price drops for the north-east (-9% to £15,851) and north-west (-7% to £16,565) of England. 2/4 STOCKING TRENDS The share of alternative fuel cars stocked by dealers hit a new high in October, according to MOTORS’ latest Market View. Hybrids and EVs accounted for 14% of cars advertised by dealers, up from just 10% 12 months ago. 1/4 DAYS TO SELL Dealers averaged 30 days to sell in October, unchanged month-on-month, according to the latest MOTORS Market View. Immediately after this week's budget, Insight Advantage carried out some research for us on consumer sentiment and how it had been affected by the annoucements. The results were encouraging for the sector as most consumers said their car buying plans are unchanged. Celebrating 165 years of Hendy Group , I’m thrilled to look back on the milestones that have shaped us, and I'd like to share with you more chapters in our story. Back in the 1890s, we entered the emerging automotive world as distributors for Benz, Bolle and De Dion-Bouton - brands that have since faded from production. Our most significant milestone, however, came in 1910 when my great-great-uncle Percy Hendy met with Henry Ford at Southampton Docks, establishing Hendy as Britain’s first Ford dealer. Just a few years later, in 1913, we expanded further opening Ford dealerships in Bournemouth and later in Portsmouth, extending our footprint across the South Coast. Throughout Percy’s career, he grew the business substantially and notably supported the war effort by servicing Fordson tractors and building Spitfires at the former Hendy Vincent's Walk site in Southampton, where Hendy mechanics built over 4,000 Spitfires. Earlier this year I was incredibly touched when my family and I unveiled a blue plaque, donated by Hendy Foundation , to honour the sites and people involved in Spitfire production. 1. Although values dipped -1.1% (c£210), there’s plenty to chat about across age bands, vehicle segments and fuel type, with EVs the strongest performing fuel.
