THE UNITED KINGDOM AND IRELAND SOCIETY OF CATARACT AND REFRACTIVE SURGEONS (UKISCRS) celebrates 75 years of the invention of the intraocular lens (IOL) and the benefits the procedure has given to millions of people, by restoring their vision due to cataracts. Professor Paul Ursell , President of UKISCRS and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ashtead Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK , shared his thoughts: “The IOL, an artificial lens that replaces the eye's natural lens removed during cataract surgery has transformed the landscape of eye surgery, becoming one of the most significant medical advancements of the 20th century." In 2023 it is estimated that 750,000 cataract surgeries were performed in the UK, making it the most common operation performed in the NHS. This Movember, we're raising awareness about the importance of prostate health. At Ramsay Health Care, we’re proud to offer advanced treatments, like Aquablation therapy, a minimally invasive procedure that treats symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH), and can make a world of difference for those facing prostate conditions. Like Martin, who was struggling with symptoms that disrupted his daily life. Ramsay are proud to support the BOPA (The British Oncology Pharmacy Association) Introduction to Oncology Course this month, with two of our staff presenting across both days. Netty (Annette) Cracknell fBOPA FRPharmS ran two workshops on clinical verification of prescriptions and side effects of SACT, whilst Adam Warrillow brought a unique nurse view to the training sessions and presented on SACT administration and management of extravasation. Adam said, "It was the first time I had presented at such an event and it was a privilege to do so. The attendees were very welcoming and engaging on the day, thanks to BOPA for the opportunity to present at such an event." The course is a fantastic opportunity for all new cancer pharmacy professions and forms part of the Ramsay Health Care cancer pharmacy training programme.
