A record-breaking Boxing Day as new sellers get their 2024 moving! 🏡 
 
👉 A record number of sellers listed properties on Boxing Day, up 26% on the previous year.
 
👉 Visits to Rightmove nearly doubled (+84%) between Christmas Day and Boxing Day, up 8% on last year.
 
👉 The number of buyers contacting estate agents about homes for sale jumped by 273% between the Christmas Day lull and Boxing Day.
 
Our property expert Tim Bannister says: “The scale of this year’s Boxing Day bounce is an early positive sign at the start of the year that buyers and sellers are out there and taking action."

Wrexham in Wales is the busiest place to rent this year, with a whopping average of 56 enquiries per property from tenants in 2023, up from eight enquiries back in 2019. 📈 🏡

Across Great Britain, a typical rental home on the market has received an average of 20 enquiries per property this year, compared to six in 2019, more than triple.

However, there are signs that the balance between supply and demand will improve next year as the number of properties available to rent is now 11% higher than this time last year. While the number of renters looking for a home and sending enquiries to estate agents is 12% lower than at this time in 2022.

Rightmove Hackathon 2023! 👩‍💻👨‍💻 

For several years, we've hosted an annual hackathon event that celebrates innovation and collaboration. This year it was centered around Generative AI. 🤖 

A total of 141 Rightmovers from our London, Milton Keynes, and Newcastle offices, from software engineers to designers, joined forces. Together, after two days of intense hacking they delivered an impressive array of 25 AI-based projects!

Well done to all participants, and a special congratulations to... The Milton Keynes team! 🏆 

Their project utilised AI-generated images to help consumers visualise rooms in various decorative styles, and won the Best Overall Hack and Best for Consumer awards. A fantastic showcase of talent and innovation!  💻 🏡


What's happening in the housing market? 🏡
 
👉 A drop in new seller asking prices takes the national average to £355,177 this month, ending 2023 with prices 1.1% below this time last year.
 
👉 Early signs of more activity in the second-stepper, 'family mover' market, with demand up the most for mid-market homes versus last year.
 
👉 The 2023 housing market has been better than many predicted, with lower than expected falls in asking prices.
