New this year, Robert Dyas kicked off Plant & Pause for it's second year running with a nationwide competition, Nominate Your Community Space. Encouraging people to nominate a green community space in their local area which has the potential to be transformed for the mental and physical health of their community. We’re delighted to announce that St George’s Hospital in Tooting is the winner of our Nominate Your Community Space competition! The NHS team put forward the green space on their dementia ward, which they plan to turn into a sensory garden to benefit dementia patients, their carers and NHS staff. The project would also involve the vegetables grown in the garden being donated to a community fridge. The hospital team has no NHS funding for the space and has so far had to self-fund it to establish the garden. After careful consideration of our many high-quality entries, our judges decided that our prizes would be of huge help to this worthy cause, which would benefit those in the hospital ward and beyond. Plant and Pause is back for it's second year! This initiative focuses on the benefits of utilising your outdoor space to promote good mental health and wellbeing, kicking off during Stress Awareness Month and running until August. For the second year running, we has teamed up with the gardening for health charity, Thrive. With over 40 years of experience, using gardening alongside Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH), to help improve people’s physical and psychological health. Thrive’s CEO, Ben Thomas said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Robert Dyas. We know that being out in the fresh air, surrounded by plants and nature is incredibly beneficial for mental and physical health. Evidence suggests just twenty minutes spent in gardens or the countryside can significantly reduce stress hormone levels. That’s why this campaign is so important, and we are proud to be associated with it.” In 2021, the RHS released research that revealed those who garden every day have wellbeing scores 6.6% higher* and stress levels 4.2% lower than people who don’t garden at all. Surveying more than 6000 people, the research showed a significant association between gardening more frequently and improvements in wellbeing, perceived stress and physical activity. New this year, we is kicking off Plant & Pause with a nationwide competition, Nominate Your Community Space. They are encouraging people to nominate a community space in their local area which has the potential to be transformed for the mental and physical health of their community. Robert Dyas joined forces with @childhoodtrust for their 'Decorate a Child's Life' initiative. The Childhood Trust is London's leading child poverty charity, committed to mitigating the effects of poverty on children and young people in the capital. Growing up in poverty presents numerous challenges that can hinder a child's development and potential. With London having the highest rate of child poverty in England, The Childhood Trust's mission is centred on supporting the 700,000-plus children living in poverty in the city. Since its establishment in 2013, The Childhood Trust has raised over £40 million, funding projects supporting more than 400,000 children and young people. The 'Decorate a Child's Life' Programme, initiated by The Childhood Trust, focuses on redecorating the bedrooms of underprivileged children and local youth clubs and community centres. The objective is to provide children in substandard living conditions with a safe space to learn, play, and thrive. Renovation projects, conceptualized in-house or by pro-bono interior designers, are completed daily by dedicated volunteer groups like ours! Robert Dyas took on the task of revitalizing two children's bedrooms. Our collaboration with The Childhood Trust, London's child poverty charity, exemplifies the strength of communities uniting for a shared purpose.
