Two of our brands have been recognised with Gold medals at the Great British Food Awards. Double Stout (5.2%) and Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager (4.5%) both received accolades in the awards, which celebrate the very best of British artisanal produce in the food and drink industry. Judges described Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager as: “[A] lovely golden lager, smooth to drink with a citrussy, floral undertone. Perfectly refreshing on a summer's day.” On the Double Stout, they said: “this velvety double stout goes down a treat.” Shepherd Neame’s Director of Brewing Mike Unsworth said: “We are thrilled that two of our brands have received national acclaim in the Great British Food Awards. Our Visitor Centre has won a Welcome award in VisitEngland ’s Visitor Attraction Accolades, announced this week! The Visitor Centre in Court Street, Faversham, was named among nine winners in the South East that go the extra mile to provide a high-quality day out. Accolades were awarded to 72 English attractions covering all aspects of what makes an outstanding visitor experience. The five categories were: Welcome, Quality Food and Drink, Hidden Gem, Best Told Story and Gold for overall excellence. Our Visitor Centre team attended the ceremony at the British Motor Museum in Warwickshire to collect their award on Tuesday. Head of Customer Relations, Giles Hilton, said: "Thousands of people visit to enjoy our brewery tours each year, learning more about Britain’s oldest brewer. A small but dedicated team work hard throughout the year to ensure the experience is as welcoming as possible, and this award not only recognises this but also the part played by everyone behind the scenes in the Brewery." We are delighted to announce the extension of our pouring rights partnership with EFL Championship team Millwall Football Club . Shepherd Neame Ltd was announced as the official provider of beer, cider, wines, spirits and soft drinks at Millwall Football Club ’s stadium The Den in July last year. A three-year deal was initially agreed, but following the success of our partnership, it will now run for another five years. As part of the new agreement, the former matchday shop, in the corner of the Coldblow Lane and Dockers stands, has been transformed into a new pub-style space for fans to enjoy on matchdays. The ‘Spitfire Bar’, named after our award-winning Spitfire collection of beers, will be open to all fans from tomorrow (Saturday, October 19) ahead of the match against Derby County. To celebrate the opening, a pint of Spitfire or Hurlimann lager will be available in the Spitfire Bar, for the reduced price of £5, from opening at midday until one hour before kick-off. Millwall Football Club 's Chief Commercial Officer Luke Wilson said: "Shepherd Neame’s renewed commitment to the club so early on in our partnership, and comprehensive support with providing a brand new space for fans on matchdays, is testament to the strength of the relationship we’ve built in such a short space of time. Two of our pubs opened their doors to host Restart a Heart days with our Charity of the Year, Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) on Tuesday (October 15). The Royal Crown, Rochester and The Blue Anchor at Crowborough both welcomed KSS medical staff and members of the public in for the free events, which offered the chance to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Starting bystander CPR ahead of the emergency services could more than double the chance of survival. Visitors watched an informal demonstration, before being able to get some hands-on experience too with medics on hand to answer any questions. Twin sisters Susan Stoten and Hazel Sturmer are celebrating two decades running Shepherd Neame Ltd pub The Hastings Arms. The pair took on the historic pub in Hastings Old Town, which dates back to the 18th century, on September 29, 2004. Susan said: “Hazel was working at another Shepherd Neame pub in Hastings, The Anchor, and heard that The Hastings Arms was up for grabs. I was living and working in London as head of security at Hatton Garden, and didn’t have any previous pub experience, but I decided to come down and see it. “As soon as I walked into the pub with Hazel it felt right. Our parents lived in Hastings, so I liked the idea of being near them, and the change of lifestyle, living by the sea and being my own boss, really appealed.” During the past two decades, the sisters have put their own unique stamp on the pub, building an excellent reputation for their well-kept cask ales, along with their delicious menu of homemade pub classics, including the popular Tuesday Curry Nights and Tapas Thursdays. Hazel said: “We love meeting new people, and take real pride in ensuring that our food and drink is of the highest quality. We want every customer to enjoy their experience with us and leave the pub happy.” It has also become even more of a family affair, as shortly after Susan met her now-husband Steven in 2010, he moved in and took on the role of Head Chef. The couple have two rescue Terriers, Bob and Buster, who live with them above the pub. Susan said: “Part of the reason that we have really enjoyed working with the team at Shepherd Neame during the past 20 years, is that it is a family business and we share the same values. They have always treated us well and supported us in every way.” Shepherd Neame’s Chief Executive Jonathan Neame visited the pub to celebrate their 20th anniversary and present them with a commemorative plaque and magnum of Champagne. Jonathan Neame said: “I was delighted to join Susan and Hazel to mark this special occasion, and thank them for their dedication and hard work during the past two decades. It was also great to meet their Head Chef Steven, who has created a fantastic menu which has been key to the pub’s success. The Hastings Arms is everything a good pub should be, offering superb food and drink, a warm welcome, and loved by the community it serves. The team at our fine seafood restaurant, The Fish On The Green, are celebrating after hearing they have retained their Double Rosette award from the AA. It is the thirteenth year that the restaurant, in Church Lane, Bearsted, on the edge of the village green, has received the award, and it is 15 years since it received its very first AA Rosette. The AA says of the site: “The quintessentially English setting of a Kentish village green may seem a surprising location for a restaurant that majors on seafood but this unpretentious and friendly venue has built a strong local fan base." This latest accolade comes as a testament to the hard work and dedication of Head Chef Peter Baldwin, who has been at the Fish on the Green for 16 years, and his close-knit team, which includes new General Manager Hannah McDonough, who joined the team a month ago. The restaurant, which has been part of Shepherd Neame since 2016, is also due to undergo redecoration inside in the coming months. There was a packed house for the official reopening of our Bromley pub, The Bricklayers Arms, on Thursday (October 3), following a stunning £330,000 refurbishment. The pub, affectionately known as ‘The Bricks’, reopened last month after the renovation, which kept the historic building’s original features and character while introducing a stylish, contemporary feel. There is a new, welcoming bar and bespoke swing sign while the spacious courtyard garden has been transformed with new bench furniture and a covered area for innovative interactive darts using the latest in social entertainment technology, which proved popular on the night! Regulars and invited guests who packed the town centre pub cheered as Bromley Football Club owner and chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves pulled the first official pint. Chief Executive Jonathan Neame also presented a £1,000 cheque to Reverend James Harratt , chairman of Bromley Relief in Need. Jonathan Neame said: “What we hope we have created here is a great community pub and we hope it will continue to be at the heart of its community - we know how much this pub is loved by locals." If the new General Manager of our coastal pub, the Belle Vue Tavern, Victoria Boreham, looks familiar, then you may have seen her working in pubs and restaurants in the Thanet area over the last 20 years. She actually started out in hospitality at 13 selling ice creams in the cabin at the Minnis Bay Bar and Brasserie! Since then she’s had a long career with Whitbread before making the switch to Shepherd Neame – and she’s still only 34. “Working in pubs, you meet so many people,” she said. “It is nice to come to work and not to feel like it’s work. If something bad does happen, you can laugh about it!” She adds of the Belle Vue Tavern – which is home to the ‘Balcony of Kent’ - “It is such a beautiful location. I was blown away by the view.” She’s already got to work improving the rear garden, with the interior due for redecoration, while she has also introduced a breakfast menu from 8.30am to 10.30am Wednesday to Sunday, and is planning themed nights. She’s a passionate advocate for a healthy work/life balance and for her that includes time with her two dogs (Charlie, a Newfoundland, and Hank, a bulldog)... and mixed martial arts, such as boxing and Taekwondo! #brewer #brewery #brewing #hospitality #pubs #Kent
