Reducing spills from storm overflows is the number one action that water companies can take to rebuild public trust and show how they are improving the environment. We welcome this plan from United Utilities.

We have today set out new standards expected of water companies for how they should operate, grow and maintain their priority services registers (PSR) of customers that need extra help. Some people need extra support with their water and wastewater services to make sure they get the same standard of service as everyone else. In August, the Ofwat Innovation Fund was featured in a Talkshow at the annual World Water Week conference in Stockholm to discuss learnings from using an innovation fund to drive sector-led innovation in the water sector, to an international audience. Ofwat and Spring recently published their new knowledge-sharing principles, co-created with leaders from across the water industry, to drive quicker scaling and adoption of innovative solutions. In an online interactive workshop on 21 November, 10.00 - 11.30 am, there will be an opportunity to discuss best practices and see examples of effective knowledge-sharing in action. This summer, the Ofwat Innovation Fund team delivered a 4-day sprint at the NWG (Northumbrian Water Group) ’s Innovation Festival, to explore the barriers to new innovations being adopted at scale in the water sector, and how Ofwat, water companies, and new and existing suppliers can work together to overcome them. In this blog, we reflect on what we heard from our sprint’s participants, who span representatives from water companies, academia, the supply chain and more, as well as next steps for Ofwat.
